Idolatry's Results

Bobservations Column
By Pastor Bob Lawrenz

Jeremiah 13 - God instructs the Prophet to do something unusual, as a practical example of what God’s people have done, and its outcome.

The application for us is simple, for it answers the question of “Why must I go through this, Lord?”: a question that many have asked at one time or another. God’s response to His people is just one of the judgments He can send our way for disobedience, but it is designed to get our attention, and to motivate us to righteousness, avoiding God’s judgments in the future.

Christians are reminded that Halloween comes this week. And, just like the Jews of old, we will be tempted to celebrate falsehoods, idolatry, glorify evil, and honor Satan and his evil works on Thursday, October 31st.

How easy it is to stray from God’s Word when all around us, communities are hosting Halloween Parties for hundreds of youngsters that are clueless about the evil that is in our world. “Halloween is just a fun time for kids” is the mantra for the day. Is this why God warns us throughout His Word of the evils of the Spirit realm’s dark side? Even among Evangelical Churches, many substitute Harvest Parties as an alternative to Halloween Parties. But is that not just putting a fresh label on an evil custom to make it more appealing? They are still acknowledging the day! “A rose by any other name is still a rose,” and in this case, it’s children are exposed to its thorny stems.

U.S. Attorney General Barr said it this past week: The country has lost its spirituality regarding religion and faith in God, and we have all suffered for it. His remarks were made before a Notre Dame School of Law Assembly. You can google a text of his speech: https://www.justice.gov/opa/speech/attorney-general-william-p-barr-delivers-remarks-law-school-and-de-nicola-center-ethics

We are no longer at a crossroads. Lord, help us! Political Correctness has become the “religion-of-the-day.” We surely don’t want to hurt Satan’s feelings!

“Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards,
to be defiled by them: I am the LORD your God." –
Leviticus 19:31
